Fr. Willenborg is not accused of any wrong doings in the Superior Diocese. What he has done whether alleged, proven or admiited by Fr Willenborg he did as a younger man. By law he no longer is responsible for an adult child. However, as a human being and especially a clergy person should see the law as only minimum requirements and should act in accordance with proper ethics and morality which take precedence above and beyond the law. I am a father of four adult daughters. I have no fiscal responsibility , by law, for them. However when they are in need I act out of love,care, concern, morality, and ethics to help them when they are in need and am with them to support them. With today’s electronic communications there is no reason a Father cannot stay in close contact with their children. One never abandons family, especially children. Never! A true Father is always there and available even if in the past teh children want no conatc. When need and time arise and one’s child is in need a Father puts that ned to the top of his priority list. That means if a child wants nothing to do with you as a Father for years then a loving Father does not force himself upon the cchild. I use the word child as minor and adult offspring. However,like God, who is always open to our return a Father must always be open to the return of a child and provide for that child. If I, as a Father cannot provide for the needs of my children adequately in my position then I need to position myself so I can provide even if it means leaving my current position and putting myself in a position to be available. Never, ever does a Father turn his back on a child. God does not turn his back on any of us and we call God, Father. The Prodigal Son has returned, Father Willenborg. Kill the fatted calf and rejoice. Do not hide from your responsibilities. and a chance to come back into relationship with your son on your sons term! I am a married former clergyman in the Diocese of Superior. I know what it is like to balance family and ministry. It is doable. If you cannot do this then you must put yourself in a position to do this, to care for your flesh and blood. That may mean quitting the priesthood and finding employment elsewhere. I won’t judge you for your past but give you this advice for the present. If you didn’t do the right thing years ago then do it now! It is never too late.

My heart goes out to the young man who has cancer and for his mother also. This is a sad and pathetic (yet complicated) situation.

My irony was not serving aboard ship, as my duty station was the US Naval Amphib base, Little Creek, VA. So two old ex squids have differing opinions—who would of thunk it?

And while she was Administrator of EPA, and as a result of her directive concerning gays, lesbians, etc., I directed a letter to her which ended with these quite famous words; “Mrs. Browner, if you can do this on your own volition, perhaps the next Administrator will add fornicators, masturbators, pedophiles, and those that enjoy bestiality, and then perhaps all of your employees will be included in your stupid directive.” Of course, my supervisory position was soon abolished.
