Authorities say the founder and artistic director of the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua has been released from jail on a $5,000 signature bond after being arrested in a sexual assault and aggravated battery investigation.
Warren P. Nelson of Washburn is the star of Tent Show Radio, a nationwide weekly public radio program that hosts Big Top performances.
Bayfield District Attorney Craig Haukaas says the 61-year-old Nelson was arrested Friday and made a court appearance Monday for bail to be set. Haukaas says Nelson’s next court appearance is Feb. 24, and formal charges will be filed by then.
